Walden House in-custody programs employ the Therapeutic Community (TC) model to help give hope and change the lives of our participants. In the TC, we treat the whole person rather than their symptoms and we view recovery as a global change of lifestyle. We promote community within each of our facilities by serving a diverse population, employing a diverse staff and acknowledging what each person has to bring to the table. We have many different activities and job functions that promote social learning. Currently in the state of California, prisons are overcrowded and recidivism (return to custody) rates are higher than ever. Our goal is to help our clients to stay out of prison and become productive members of their families and communities.
