Mental Health Care Manager

Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY
Primary responsibility for caseload of clients with varying mental health needs throughout all phases of treatment.  In conjunction with specialized staff, develops and updates client’s treatment plan.  In order to develop readiness for eventual re-entry, develops plan that focuses on reentry concerns, such as job readiness, life skills, etc.  In furtherance of well-rounded plan, utilizes internal and outside resources available for clients.  Goal is to develop client readiness to move to Outpatient treatment within 6 months to 1 year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Treatment Planning:  In case conference setting, evaluates needs and develops plan that coordinates Agency and community resources.  Works with specialists prepare client for next phase of treatment.
Caseload Responsibilities:  Holds individual and group counseling sessions with caseload.  Assists clients in taking responsibility for own actions by giving “learning experiences”, reprimands, enforced reflection times, and facilitating “confrontations”.   Monitors medications and money.
Administration and Compliance:  In accordance with guidelines established by Walden House to satisfy internal and external administrative demands, and those of evaluating agencies, maintains accurate records on all clients.
Community Responsibilities:  Leads house meetings and specialized groups, teaches classes, plans clinical days and holidays.  Checks facility for safety and takes responsibility for all clients as unforeseen situations arise; communicates with primary counselors.  Performs urinalyses, body, and room searches.  Takes clients to appointments and outside functions. 
Role Model:  Acts as role model by following norms, demonstrating honesty and a willingness to listen to clients’ issues, and taking responsibility for own actions.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
•Performs first aid and CPR and covers caseload of absent colleagues.
•Serves on committees, works rotating schedule.
•Occasionally performs functions relevant to needs of program, clients, or Agency outside the everyday functions of job (i.e. fundraising, maintenance, ceremonies, community spirit activities, camping, etc.).
 
EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
•Must be a certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor.  If not, must be registered for California Alcohol and Drug Certification with any of the State of California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) approved agencies within 6 months of hire. After registration, must obtain certification within 5 years.
•Knowledge of mental health issues
•Knowledge of group process, group facilitation, and conflict resolution.
•Bachelor's Degree in a Social Science (Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, etc.)
•Good writing skills with proper grammar, good spelling, and good handwriting.
•A clear understanding of and ability to demonstrate professional ethics, boundaries, and judgment.
•Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
•Time management skills.
•Ability to manage diverse population.
•Knowledge of addiction and addictive process.

EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED
•Knowledge of community resources
•Knowledge of stages of HIV, risk reduction techniques, and how HIV is transmitted.
•Specialized knowledge such as, life skills, vocational training, anger management, incest, criminal behavior, rape crisis, grief, etc.
•Knowledge of the TC milieu, 12 step philosophy, or other approaches to recovery.
•A second language (particularly Spanish)
•Computer literacy
