Mental Health Manager

JOB SUMMARY
The mental health manager for the 890/815 facilities is the supervisor for a team of therapists working in the adult residential programs.  The mental health manager oversees all aspects of mental health treatment within the program including individual and group therapy, skills training, assessment, and crisis intervention.  This individual ensures compliance with codes, documentation standards,  licensing requirements, and Walden House policies and procedures.  The mental health manager works closely with other clinical managers and staff to ensure consistent treatment.  Coordinates psychiatric services and acts as a liaison between mental health staff and facility managers as well as  ensures that mental health medical records meet compliance requirements and professional standards.  The mental health manager provides direct clinical services (individual/group therapy, skills training facilitation, crisis intervention) to agency clients.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Supervises therapists and coordinates the work of psychiatrists as well as oversees the activities of the mental health program.  Selects, hires, trains, evaluates, supervises, disciplines and terminates staff.  Responsible for morale and communicating effectively with supervisors, peers, subordinates and clients.  Coordinates the caseloads of practicum students and provides them with auxiliary supervision as needed. 
Clinical Responsibilities:  Chairs weekly mental health team meetings that reviews and manages the care of mental health clients in residential care.  Performs or supervises the performance of crisis assessments and participates in 5150 procedures when needed.  Maintains therapist schedule for after- hour and weekend emergency coverage and provides back-up consultation and emergency coverage as specified in policies and procedures.  Provides consultation to all clinical staff as needed.  Provides direct clinical services to clients.
Development and Planning Responsibilities:  Develops and maintains policies and procedures.  Participates in agency-wide program design and quality improvement efforts.  Attends meetings as required.
Administration and Compliance:  In accordance with guidelines established by Walden House to satisfy internal and external administrative demands, and those of evaluating agencies, maintains up to date and accurate medical records.  Audits mental health records to ensure billing accuracy and compliance with MediCal regulations/standards and Walden House policies and procedures.  Attends monthly MediCal utilization, revenue maximization, and mental health department meetings as required.   Attends weekly mental health managers meetings as required. 
Community Responsibilities:  Conducts clinical trainings and attends agency required trainings.  Participates in facility meetings as requested and assists the clinical management team as requested.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs outreach functions and represents Walden House mental health programs to other agencies and referral sources.
Serves on committees as assigned
 
EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
California Licensed Clinical Social Worker, MFT, or Psychologist + 2 years in License
Masters degree or doctorate in psychology, counseling or social work
Prior supervised experience in mental health setting with varied populations
Demonstrated written and record keeping skills
Familiarity with cognitive-behavioral therapy, brief psychotherapy and psycho-educational approaches
Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team

EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED
LCSW preferred + 2 years in license
Clinical experience with substance abuse issues, diverse populations and MediCal services are highly desirable
Previous managerial experience
Familiarity with diagnostic criteria as presented in the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and statistical manual of Mental Health Disorders (DSM)
