Los Angeles - LA's Newest Residential Treatment Facility Near MacArthur Park Offers Hope and Changes Lives

Walden House for ex-prison inmates opens in MacArthur Park

Move-In Day and Celebration on Wednesday, June 16 at 12:30pm

Los Angeles, CA (June 16, 2010)…Los Angeles-area men struggling with addiction and incarceration now have a new transitional home to build their lives before rejoining their communities.  Walden House, one of the nation’s oldest and most renowned organizations treating addiction and mental illness, opened the doors and welcomed residents to their new home at 2307 West 6th Street, near MacArthur Park.

“Welcome home,” said Walden House President and CEO Vitka Eisen.  “We promise you a safe, sober and productive environment to help you make your way back to your families and into our community.”

Eisen led a celebration that included LA County Sheriff Leroy Baca, Councilwoman Jan Perry, Walden House’s LA regional director Michael Brenner, and friends and families of the residents.

“Walden House is giving me the opportunity to learn all over again how to be part of community,” said resident Eddie Corrasco. “Living here – after the stress of prison – gives me support, safety and positive encouragement to re-build what I lost.  I have hope now.”

Walden House just moved into the 1978 building following a $1 million comprehensive renovation.  The facility will provide a home for up to 160 men transitioning from jail or prison who are preparing to return to independent living in their community.  Walden House will provide onsite licensed residential behavioral health treatment that includes substance abuse treatment and counseling; individual and group therapy; job search assistance, and other essential services to help these men get back on their feet.

“Today, this building is a center for change and hope, for lives rebuilt and futures rescued,” said Michael Brenner, Walden House Regional Director   “Too often, men come out of prison with no support – no one wants to deal with them.  But Walden House is always there to provide the support for these men to get back on their feet, and rejoin the community as productive members.”
